Happy President’s Day,
This is the day we remember our Presidents, especially George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It is also a day I encourage you to spend a few extra minutes praying for our new President Barack Obama. In fact, why not stop right now and pray God’s blessing on President Obama. Pray for God to bless him:
· Bodily – Pray for his health and physical strength as he settles into the demanding schedule of the office.
· Labor – Pray for the work he has to do today, this week, this term. Pray for the responsibility he has as the Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces. Pray for him as he tries to guide the nation through these days of economic crises.
· Emotionally – Pray for strength to mentally and emotionally hold up under the pressure of the office of President. Pray for Godly wisdom to fill his mind as he makes decisions.
· Socially – Pray for the many relationships he tries to balance through the day. Pray for his home, his wife and two children, that in the midst of being President he would also be husband and father. Pray for his relationships to government leaders in our country and around the world. Pray for wisdom as he sorts through the many requests for his time and appointments.
· Spiritually – Pray for President Obama in his walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. He professes his faith as a believer in Jesus Christ. Pray for a growing sense of dependence on the Lord to guide him each day. Pray for a hunger and thirst for the truths of God’s Word, the Bible. Pray for a Christian testimony to be communicated through his lips, his life and his actions that would reflect the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our President needs our prayers. Our nation needs our prayers. This is the time to put differences and disagreements behind us and pray. We are in challenging times and the only hope for the United States of America is to look back to God and our foundation which is Jesus Christ. Hear the words from the Lord as recorded in 2 Chronicles 7:13-14, “3 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” I believe revival can come to America as we humble ourselves before God and seek Him. It begins with me. It begins with you. Let’s pray.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for this week:
1. This past Sunday morning at the close of the service Trey Sanders, our Youth Director, read his resignation effective March 1. Trey has worked in this position for many years and plans to continue to be involved even after he officially steps down as the Youth Director. Please pray for Trey and his family during this time of transition. Pray for the ministry we as a church have to youth. Pray for the Personnel Committee as they consider the Lord’s direction in this important ministry area. We will plan a church-wide, covered dish luncheon after church on Sunday, March 8 to say “Thank You” to Trey for his years of service. Everyone is invited and encouraged to come.
2. We welcome Alicia Hoffman as our newest member. She came forward Sunday night during the invitation and will join by baptism. Please pray for Alicia as she takes this important step of obedience.
3. All youth are reminded of the special Youth Connect this Saturday night, February 21 at 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center. We will have pizza, popcorn and watch the movie “Facing the Giants”. Invite your friends to join you for this evening of fun and fellowship. In addition to being a great movie, “Facing the Giants” also has a strong gospel message of hope and faith in Jesus Christ. There is no charge for the Youth Connect and it is for all students in grades 7-12.
4. Speaking of youth, it’s not too late to sign up for the Youth Ski Trip, February 28-March 1. For information contact Trey and Patsy Sanders.
5. Sunday night services are picking up as we study through the Bible this year. (The after church time of fellowship and refreshments helps also.) If you haven’t been attending plan to come this Sunday night at 5:30 PM as we study in the book of Joshua. The Bible reading for this week is:
February 16 Deuter. 20-23
February 17 Deuter. 24-27
February 18 Deuter. 28-30
February 19 Deuter. 31-34
February 20 Joshua 1-4
February 21 Joshua 5-8
February 22 Joshua 9-12
6. One of our college students contacted me for information concerning camps to serve at during the Summer months. There are several I am familiar with and I pass these on for others who may be looking for Summer work in a Christian camp setting.
There are several camps I would suggest for you to check out. The ministry we worked with this winter in Kentucky is called Big Creek Missions and the Director is Kevin Rogers and you can tell him I suggested you call him personally. The web site is: http://www.bigcreekmissions.com/ and Kevin's phone number is 865 705-4995.
You could also contact Lighthouse Christian Camp in Smithville. The contact is Mike Kilgore at 931 529-0683. He and his wife Lisa came to First Baptist several months ago and shared about the camp. Their web site is: http://www.lighthousechristiancamp.com/
You might also contact Christy Dyer at the Tennessee WMU office about GA camps in the Summer. Her phone number is 615 371-7919.
The Tennessee Baptist Convention has two camps that have Summer Programs. Here is the contact information for them:
Camp Linden Contact Tim Bearden 877 354 6336
Camp Carson Contact Kevin Perrigan 877 704-6336
The web site is: http://www.tnbaptist.org/page.asp?cat=aboutus&subcat=aboutcamps
I hope this helps. I will be glad to write or call if you need a reference.
7. Have you seen the Captain D’s commercial lately? Deborah Weaver’s son and daughter are in it. He says, “That sounds crazy.” Check it out at:
